One item that is recommended for vacations longer than 1 week or more is an automatic feeder. They are only recommended if you get a high quality one though; you cannot cheap out here because you get what you pay for. Cheap automatic feeders have killed a lot of betta fish since their inception.

If you are going on vacation for less than fours days, it’s ok to fast your betta during that time period. Betta food feeders are perfect for keeping your fish healthy while you’re away albeit making an awful mess and have inferior nutritional value. Sometimes betta fish just won’t eat other fish, even if they are small fry. Also, the more fish you have in the aquarium, the dirtier the water will get in a limited amount of time. It is not recommended to put too many live worms, shrimp, or other such live animals in the tank with the aim of keeping your Betta fish fed while on vacation.

Bettas do not eat every day in their natural habitat anyway. So this can be an okay option, especially if you are going away on a two to three day trip. There can even be some health benefits for a short fast. Still, you don’t want to go past the three-day limit. After this amount of time, your fish will enter into starvation mode.

Hi. Does anyone have any suggestions for vacation feeders for bettas? I have the cylindrical type with a timer but I find it doesn't work with fine betta food. It either doesn't come out or it too much comes out. I feed him bug bites . It worked ok for my tropicals and large flakes food but not this.

Guide to betta care while on vacation. | Betta Headquarters I think that is a good guide. Some people like to give the betta a day of fasting to avoid issues that can come with overeating. I really liked the tip about covering the bowl BUT remember you have to use a net so you don't suffocate your fish.
